Each time a Gefäßkörper (Vesselbody) is created, a different aspect comes to the forefront, sometimes related to the body, a landscape, or an emotion; other times, pertaining to an exploration of the boundaries of the material itself. Once a base is thrown on the wheel, I begin to form the piece solely from the inside. Of great interest to me is how clay as a material can be used to show unseen, interior spaces. I consider the unseen to be equal in importance and substance to the more obvious, visible shape. The connection between the interior and exterior is paramount.
